Contains the following type of material: photographs. Covers the following wars: World War II (WWII), Vietnam War. Contains photographs of the following military units: 357th Infantry Regiment; 109th Engineer Battalion; 1st Infantry Division. General description of the collection: The William E. DePuy photograph collection consists of many photographs that were used in the book written by General DePuy titled: "Changing an Army". Many of those photos were copied from books or are Army Signal Corps photos found elsewhere in MHI's holdings. Thirty photos are original photos donated by General DePuy and cover his career from a corporal in the 109th Engineer Battalion in 1939 to his retirement ceremony at Fort Monroe in 1977.

William E. DePuy graduated from South Dakota State College in 1941 and was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant of Infantry from the Reserve Officers Training College (ROTC) program. He served with the 357th Infantry in Europe during World War II and was G-3 of the 90th Division at war's end. He went directly to the Command and General Staff College and then served on the War Department General Staff.
