James O'Meara letter : San Francisco, Calif. : ALS, 1857 July 3.

O'Meara acknowledges receipt of a recent letter from "General." After mentioning affairs in Washington, he turns to his trip to Mariposa, Stanislaus, Merced, Fresno, Tulare, and Buena Vista (Monterey?) counties, to speak on behalf of the Democratic Party ticket, the demise of the periodical "State journal," and Democratic Party gains in Sacramento. He then discusses conditions on the Indian reservations in Fresno and Tulare counties, Calif., and closes with remarks on family matters.
