Four saints. 1608-1962.

A unique volume designed, printed by letterpress and bound at R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company, Chicago, for presentation to Charles H. Kellstadt upon the occasion of his retirement in 1962 from the chairmanship of Sears, Roebuck & Company, by the directors and officers of that firm. The volume consists of title page, letter from Albert Cardinal Meyer, Archbishop of Chicago, a duochrome portrait facing a biographical sketch, followed by an original autographed document by each of the following saints: Francis de Sales, Alfonso de' Liguori, Roberto Bellarmino, and Gregorio Barbarigo. Each document is followed by a page of translation into English. The last leaf is a colophon certifying that this was the only copy produced, and providing the sources of materials and names of craftsmen involved in the production. Hand bound by the Lakeside Press bindery in gold tooled dark blue morocco. Enclosed in an elaborately carved wooden case with a cross and the coat-of-arms of each of the four saints carved in bas relief on the cover. The letters: ALS, 23 January, [16--?], Francis de Sales to Madame de la Hechese (?), 1 p., 17.5 x 16 cm., in French -- ALS, [17--?], Alfonso de' Liguori to an unnamed recipient, 2 p., 14 x 20 cm., in Italian; with an attestation of the letter's authenticity, signed by a Vatican official, and dated 30 May 1839 -- ALS, 25 July 1608, Roberto Bellarmino to P. Andrea Giovanni, S.J., 1 p., 21 x 28 cm., in Italian -- ALS, 20 February 1667, Gregorio Barbarigo to his uncle, 1 p., 20.5 x 30 cm., in Italian.
