Time capsules collection, 1839-1902.

The collection contains religious and historical material originally housed in cornerstones laid by the First Presbyterian Church (Indianapolis) in 1841, 1866, and 1902. The material includes Sabbath School lists, business records, and photographs associated with First Presbyterian Church leaders and clergy. Other material includes Presbyterian missionary journals and other publications. Non-religious items include almanacs and Indianapolis newspapers.

The First Presbyterian Church was assembled in 1840 following a rift in the Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis. A church was erected by Oct. 1842 at Market and Circle streets and a second church was completed in 1866 at Pennsylvania and New York streets. In 1902 a cornerstone was laid for new church at 16th and Delaware Streets. In 2001 the building became home to the Harrison Center for the Arts and the Redeemer Presbyterian Church.
