Lecturer Gianata Rizzi surveys the excavation and restoration history of the ancient city of Herculaneum, which was buried in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Rizzi discusses some of the specific conservation challenges of the archaeological site, such as introducing new protective structures and architectural elements as part of the Herculaneum Conservation Project, while minimizing their impact on the existing landscape.
