Letter from Steinmetz to his friend and socialist colleague Heinrich Lux and his wife, with salutation "Lieber Hinz & liebe Frau Hinz" and signature "Proteus" in Greek characters; he recounts his experiences since 1888, when he fled to Zürich from Germany, emigrating to the United States in 1889; includes comments on current political events and his own withdrawal from political activity; he particularly addresses his work for Eickemeyer Co. and subsequently General Electric Company, his practice of not quite total abstinence from alcohol, and the results of the repeal of the Sherman Silver Act.
