Letter, April 1, 1981, from Monte Irvin to Harry Wiley. The letter opens with a reference to James Brady, the President Reagan's press secretary who was shot in an attempt on Reagan's life. The letter refers to clippings, public relations material, and schedules that were sent at the same time; these are no longer with the letter. Monte Irvin played for the Newark Eagles (1939-1942, 1946-1948) of the Negro Leagues, the New York Giants (1949-1955), the Chicago Cubs (1956), and in the Mexican League (1943). After his playing career, Irvin worked in the Commissioner's Office. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973. Harry Wiley worked for Ashland Oil of Ashland, Kentucky.
