Joseph W. Russell reports a Whig meeting in Cape Girardeau County, listing attendees and resolutions. The meeting condemns the Tariff of 1846, favoring the Tariff of 1842; also calls for Whig state and district conventions to which certain men in attendance will be delegates. They support Henry Clay's ideals as "just and patriotic."

Henry Clay Sr. (April 12, 1777 – June 29, 1852) was an American attorney and statesman who represented Kentucky in both the Senate and House.
