The United Cannery, Agricultural, Packing, and Allied Workers of America (UCAPAWA) was founded in 1937 as part of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) as a way to address concerns of agricultural industry workers during the Depression. UCAPAWA was particularly strong among Mexican and Mexican-American workers and was one of the first union to allow women to hold high-level offices.
