Includes photocopies of his letters, 1782-1786, to Captain William Meriwether recounting his travels, his debts, the fine land he owns in Louisville and the conditions of the town, and the sale of slaves to relieve the demand on his brother George's estate; a contemporary copy of a 29 Aug. 1785 deed selling 256 acres of land on Beargrass Creek in Jefferson County, Ky. to John Clark, Sr.; and legal papers, 1779-1799, regarding a tract of land on the South Fork of Beargrass Creek.

Christopher Greenup (1750?-1818) was born in either Loudoun or Westmoreland County, Virginia. During the Revolution, he served as a lieutenant in the 16th Virginia Regiment, and was later promoted to colonel. After studying law, he was admitted to the bar and began practice in Fayette County, Virginia (now a part of Kentucky).
