In a form letter with salutation written by hand, 1917 July 18, Schelling asks a "Mrs. Jones," her friends and pupils to become a member of the American Red Cross's "Musicians' Unit." Schelling describes membership costs and lists officers Ignace Paderewski as Honorary Chairman, Schelling as acting Chairman, John McCormack as Treasurer and Richard Aldrich as Secretary. In a letter, 1917 August 3, Schelling thanks a Miss Voorhis for joining, explains that their aim is "to give the highest class of entertainments for the soldiers in the training camps," and asks that she carry his message to the State Teachers' Association.

John McCormack, tenor, operatic performer, recitalist, and recording artist. Born in 1884 in Athlone, Ireland, and trained in operatics begining in 1903, McCormack rose to prominence in the US.
