Letter to [Joseph Eggleston?], 1777 May 27-30.

Joseph Eggleston, Jr., writes to [his father?] in Virginia discussing the Continental Army encampment at Bottle Hill, near Morristown, New Jersey; Washington's plans to move to Bound Brook near Brunswick. He notes Washington's "high spirits" and contrasts the current state of the army with its condition the previous winter. He also discusses the character of the New Jersey countryside with its small farms cultivated without slaves and the population grouped in small villages. A postscript mentions the death of a Col. Johnston and sends news that all is well with the men from Amelia County, Va.
