Carlisle, John Griffin, 1835-1910 1891 August 26 letter.

Carlisle writes to Hill to protest an article quoting Carlisle saying damaging things about Hill. Carlisle states that they are "flagrantly unjust" and denies even being in New York when he was suppose to have said them.

John Griffin Carlisle (September 5, 1834 – July 31, 1910) was an American politician from the commonwealth of Kentucky and was a member of the Democratic Party. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives seven times, first in 1876, and served as Speaker of the House, from 1883 to 1889. David Bennett Hill (1843-1910) was an American politician from New York. He was mayor of Elmira, New York (1892) and shortly thereafter (1893-1895) became lieutenant governor of the state.
