The Samuel B. Tove Papers consist largely of materials, 1962-1967, related to Tove's membership on an advisory committee that formulated proposals for the establishment of a doctoral program in biochemistry at the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University). Other materials in this collection document Tove's membership in three other committees at North Carolina State: the program committee of the university's annual Animal Nutrition Conference, an ad hoc building committee on improvements to Polk Hall, and the Watauga Medal selection committee.

Samuel B. Tove was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on 1921 July 29. He graduated with a B.S. in animal husbandry from Cornell University in 1943, and received an M.S. and Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1948 and 1950. Tove joined the faculty at the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University) in 1950, beginning as a research assistant professor.
