Collection includes his diary, commission, discharge papers and Confederate money. Reprints of a history of th e50th and the Craig family are in the introductory folder. The diary intermittently covers events in 1863 and March and April 1864. The diary dates are: January 1-22, 1863, 1 May - 16 September 1863, 1 January ca. 1864, and 16 March - 30 April 1864. Craig writes about daily routines, skirmishes, picket duty, and marches and battles in Tennessee and Arkansas. In the back are accounts, receipts, and notes.

Indiana lawyer, judge, and Republican politician. Morton served as the state's lieutenant governor in 1861, and as governor from 1861 to 1867. Thomas was born in New Castle, Delaware. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1823, and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the 4th U.S. Infantry. He fought in the Seminole War in Florida and, during the Mexican–American War, he was the chief of staff to General William O. Butler.
