The papers of this marine enthusiast contain little personal information about Clark. The personal correspondence is primarily from marine compiler Frederick C. Matthews and marine artist Charles R. Patterson, mostly containing requests for photographs from Clark's extensive collection. Included in Patterson's letters are comments about World War II in Europe, as well as encouragement from Patterson on Clark's proposal to start a maritime museum in San Francisco. The typescript material contains notes typed by Clark on a variety of maritime matters, including histories of the ships Star of Chile, St. Stephen, Three Brothers, Triumphant, W.R. Grace, and Challenge, and the reminiscences of a retired Bath, Maine, sea captain, originally published in 1908. The Marine Research Society material concerns notes and lists of photographs related to the society. The American Neptune material consists of a letter, agenda, and meeting report for a 1951 editorial advisory board meeting. The marine museum proposal concerns the Pacific Coast Marine Association, the basis of the establishment in 1941 of the San Francisco Museum of Science and Industry, of which Clark was a founder and its first director.
