Consists of the BFM's Secretaries' subject files, 1892-1958, and early records of the BFM's successor agency, the Commission on Ecumenical Mission and Relations, 1958-1965. The collection contains correspondence, reports, and minutes pertaining to the various mission fields, and the institutions established therein, where PCUSA mission work was conducted. These include: the Philippines, India, Korea, China, Japan, Siam, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Guatemala, and Africa. Also included are materials reflecting the Board's work with Japanese and Chinese Americans. The records document the Board's interaction with other churches and organizations, e.g.: American Bible Society, British and Foreign Bible Society, Baptist Missionary Society, Church of Scotland, Cumberland Presbyterian Church in the U.S., the Presbyterian Churches of Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and Wales, the Reformed Church in America, Reformed Presbyterian Church in North American, United Presbyterian Church of North America, the Federal Council of Churches, and the National Council of the Churches of Christ.

The Transylvania Presbytery was organized by appointment of the synods of New York and Philadelphia. The Synod of New York made part of the Presbytery of Abingdon into the Transylvania Presbytery, which encompassed the district of Kentucky and the settlements on the Cumberland River.
