Lewis Cass (October 9, 1782 – June 17, 1866) was an American military officer, politician, and statesman. Jonathan Clark, son of John and Ann (Rogers) Clark, was born in Albemarle County, Virginia, 12 August 1750, and died in Jefferson County, Kentucky, 25 November 1811. During the Revolutionary War, Clark commanded a company in the Eighth Virginia Regiment. In 1779, he was promoted to Lt. Colonel in the Continental Army. He married Sarah Hite on 13 February 1782.
