The John Moses Papers are divided into six series, as follows: SERIES I: Correspondence. About two-thirds is in Norwegian and is between Moses and his relatives in Norway. The rest centers upon his life in St. Paul from 1905-1911, as well as his university days from 1912-1915. SERIES II: Financial, SERIES III: Masonic Activities, SERIES IV: Political Materials, SERIES V: Speeches and Addresses and SERIES VI: Miscellaneous.

Born at Strand, Norway, immigrated to the United States in 1905. Graduated University of North Dakota Law School, practiced law until he was first elected governor in 1938. North Dakota governor (1939-1944) and U.S. senator (1945). First Democrat elected by popular vote to represent North Dakota in Congress and served three terms as governor.
