Letter to William Russell, 1824 May 1.

Jefferson writes concerning his proposed scheme of public education. He remarks that Russell's "judicious observation on preparatory schools ... merit consideration" ; notes that there is not a separate department of grammar, rhetoric and oratory at the University of Virginia and that no more professors are to be appointed at present; and thanks Russell in advance for a pamphlet and a book.
