Asks if he received the tickets for Carnegie Hall. Informs him that Whidden's name is Graham. Tells him that she met Prof. Griggs who is her sisters relative. Did not tell him about the new idea but had a very agreeable chat with him. Mentions that her health is not the best at the moment and that she is weak.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
