Hardy (1888-1955) was an animal fiber technologist for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and was well known for his research on animal fibers and the feeding, breeding, and management of sheep, goats and other domestic animals. He was born in Groveland, Mass., and educated at Rhode Island State College, the University of Tennessee and the University of Missouri. He worked for the Tenn. Von Bergen graduated in 1916 from the Technical College of Burgdorf, Switzerland, as a chemist and was connected with the wool industry since 1919. He was Director of Research, 1926-1962, at Forstmann Woolen Co., Passaic, N.J.; and a consultant to J.P. Stevens & Co., 1963-1972. He also served as the United States representative to the Technical Committee of the International Wool Textile Organization and taught woolen manufacturing at Columbia University.
