The Provincias Internas were formally established by the Real Orden of August 22, 1776, to provide effective government of the northern region of New Spain. Lillian Estelle Fisher was an academic historian who specialized in Latin America. She was born in 1891 in Selinsgrove, Penn., received degrees from the University of Southern California and UC Berkeley, and taught at Oklahoma College for Women for 15 years. Aside from her own writings, she completed several books on Mexican history begun by Herbert Ingram Priestley before his death in 1944. Following Fisher's retirement to Berkeley, Calif., she wrote several novels which were never published. ...
