General description of the collection: The India photograph collection consists of an album with a cover embossed with gold letters, with an inscription: "Presented to the Quartermaster General, United States Army, by the Quartermaster General in India." Inside a brief index has the following information: Photographs of types of the native Indian Army; views in Afghanistan taken during the War of 1879; North-West frontier of Hindostan; Burma during the British operations in that country. For anyone studying Indian Army uniforms and British Army uniforms of the period, these photographs are superb. Also included are natives of India and Burma, lots of scenery, villages, and fortified towns / cities and British Army ordnance and equipment.
