Marvel Parker journal, 1849.

Daily account (83 p.) of Parker's Mar.-Oct. 1849 voyage from Boston, Mass., to San Francisco, Calif., around South America on the brig, Sea Eagle. He gives detailed description of his experiences on-board, including daily operations, entertainment, various hardships, and the weather. He also describes several ports of call, including the isle of Sol (Florida?), St. Jago (now Spanish Town, Jamaica), Port Famine (Patagonia, now Chile), Lima (Peru), and San Francisco, as well as sailing through the Straits of Magellan. In addition, he mentions the formation of the Middlesex & California Joint Stock Mining Co., comprised of the ship's passengers, with a list consisting of name, residence, age, and occupation of each member.
