Kim Hà is an author whose work documents the experiences of Vietnamese refugees. She was born in 1950 in Hai Duong, North Vietnam, and completed degrees in education and social work in Saigon. Following the fall of Saigon in 1975, Hà and her family, after several unsuccessful attempts, escaped from Vietnam in 1980 to a refugee camp in Thailand.
