Letter to Joseph Story, 1835, June 14.

Peters reports on the health of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall who had come to Philadelphia for medical advice from Philip S. Physick and Nathaniel Chapman. He writes that Marshall's case is "hopeless" with a tumor in his stomach "as large as his head," and urges Story to come and see him as soon as possible.

Jurist, politician, and professor of law Joseph Story (1779-1845) was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts on September 18, 1779.
