Contains the following type of materials: photographs. Covers the following wars: World War I (WWI), World War II (WWII). Contains photographs of the following military units and organizations: 5th Division, 15th United States (U.S.) Infantry, 9th Armored Division, 2nd Armored Division. General description of the collection: John W. Leonard photograph collection covers the career of Lieutenant General Leonard from West Point (Class of 1915) to his retirement in 1952. There are few photos from his days in the 5th Division in WWI and from his tour with the 15th Infantry in China and Manchuria in the mid 1930s. Two albums in box 2 cover the 9th Armored Division in its training, maneuvers service in the European Theater of Operations (ETO), occupation duty and medal presentations. A third album illustrates the 2nd Armored Division on parade at San Antonio, Texas, in 1946. Only a handful of photos cover the remainder of his career, his family, and his gravesite.
