Hemphill family papers, 1852-1943.

Hemphill family papers provide uneven documentation of three generations of a Johnson County, Iowa family, 1852-1943. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence within each generation. Includes Civil War letters from a member of the 22nd Iowa Infantry at the Siege of Vicksburg; descriptions of stringing telegraph wires across the Midwest; and courtship correspondence from the Great Depression. Also includes photographs of Hemphill family members and their farm.
