Diary, 1834-1835 (inclusive).

A small leather-bound notebook written in pencil and ink. The first several pages of the diary are an account of the travel expenses incurred by Mrs. Adams and her children, kept by the man hired to accompany the family. The diary also includes a narrative, also written by Mrs. Adams' male escort, of the group's journey to Ohio in the spring of 1834. The account describes travel accommodations, itinerary and modes of transportation used, observations on the landscape and other sights the group witnessed, and comments on their fellow travelers. The group traveled extensively by canal, and the author describes their experiences on the Erie and other canals in detail. He also provides considerable information about several women encountered by the two families along their journey, including a women and her six children on her way to meet her husband in Detroit.

In 1834, Mrs. Adams of Providence, Rhode Island, and her three children departed on a journey that took them through New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. An unidentified man was hired to accompany Mrs. Adams and her family on their trip.
