Interview conducted by Larry Ritter for use in his book "The Glory of their times : the story of the early days of baseball told by the men who played it". Rube Marquard discusses his father's disapproval of baseball, as well as his entrance into the minor leagues and his first Major League Baseball contract.

Rube Marquard played for the New York Giants (1908-1915), Brooklyn Dodgers (1916-1920), Cincinnati Reds (1921), Boston Braves (1922-1925). He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971.
