Charles Robinson was born at Hardwick, Mass., July 21, 1818. He was educated at Hadley Academy, Amherst Academy, and Amherst College. James Henry Lane (1814-1866) was a noted military and political leader of Kansas. He was active in his home state of Indiana, serving as a military commander in the Mexican War (1841) and later as Indiana's Lieutenant Governor from 1849-1853.
