Summary: Two-page letter from John Eaton, as U.S. Secretary of War, to Gen. Alexander Macomb concerning the President's determination to withdraw troops from Towson and Leavenworth and transfer them to Jessup and Jefferson Barracks and to place four companies of infantry on the traders route from Missouri to Santa Fe and for them to hold themselves in readiness to furnish escorts to the traders as far as the Mexican line.
