George tells Markham that Paul Elder (asking if he knows him) is puting out a book. He needs an introduction. He discussed the matter with Ferguson and they suggested Markham. They would really like him to help Paul. The letter is written on "The Newsbook " stationary.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899).
