Henry R. Bishop letter, 1846.

Collection consists of one holographic letter of English composer, Henry R. Bishop, written to author, lecturer, and traveler, James Silk Buckingham, April 9, 1846. In the letter, Bishop thanks Buckingham for selecting him as an honorary member of the British and Foreign Institute. The Institute was a social and literary club founded by Buckingham in 1843 The letter also contains Bishop's appreciation for the receipt of an "Inaugural Lecture" from Buckingham.

Henry R. Bishop, English composer. He served as musical director of the top theatres in London, including and Covent Garden, King's Theatre and Drury Lane. Throughout his career, Bishop composed, contributed to, or arranged around 130 stage works, and selections from some 70 of them were published.
