Biographical Note: William West Holland (1881-1956) was an industrial chemist (1916-56) who began his career teaching chemistry at the Johns Hopkins University (1907-16). Born in Eastville, Va., Holland attended the University of Virginia and received his Ph. D. from Hopkins in 1907. He taught at Hopkins until 1916 where his research with H.N.
