Biographical Note: Henry Carrington Lancaster was Professor of French Literature, The Johns Hopkins University. He was born in 1882 in Richmond, VA and studied at the University of Virginia, later receiving his Ph. D. from Hopkins in 1907. Lancaster taught at Amherst before returning to Hopkins as Professor of French Literature in 1919 and was later appointed chairman of the Romance Languages Department.
