He agrees with Virgil regarding Ruth LaPrade. He reports on a recent performance in her Poet's Garden, which requires the guests to recite lines from Edwin Markham's poem, "Outwitted." "The way the thing is done you might think it would better be termed nit-witted.: He also asks Virgil to send copies of the papers reporting on Catherine's death. Written on Los Angeles Times letterhead.

Bailey Millard (1859-1941) was born in Markesan, Wisconsin. Much of his education was obtained as a printer's devil and tramp printer. He worked his way west through a succession of newspaper and printing shops. In the 1890s he was city editor or literary editor of the San Francisco Call and the Examiner, and in 1918-1919 was managing editor of the San Francisco Evening Bulletin .
