[Letters concerning revival in Charlottesville Baptist Church] 1857 Dec. 4-5, Charlottesville [Va. to John Albert Broadus] / A.E. Dickinson and James Alexander. 1857.

Late in November, revival had begun in the Charlottesville Church, delaying Broadus's arrival in Richmond till Nov. 30, at Grace Street Baptist Church, pastored by J.B. Jeter, to preach a series of meetings there. Dec. 4. A.E. Dickinson wrote that he had stopped in Charlottesville en route home from the S.S. Convention in Buckingham, to "take the cars, did not expect to tarry here longer than a few hours." Finding that revival was occurring and pastor Broadus was away, he remained to preach until he could stay no longer. "But the meeting ought to be continued." Dec. 5. James Alexander, a member of the church wrote: "the great work is still in progress in your congregation." Broadus's work in Richmond ended on Dec. 10.
