[Letter] 1857 July 20, Richmond, Va. to "dear Bro. Broadus" [John Albert Broadus] / B. Manly. 1857.

Manly said that he had written to [James P.] Boyce, "proposing that the meeting be here, first week in August--say the 3rd day. He replies this morning appointing that time, and engaging to notify the Com[mittee], but as you are not at home, I give you a letter on your own account--all to yourself, lest his letter should not reach you." He repeated the text of Boyce's very short letter, and urged Broadus to be in Richmond "either on Monday, or else (which would be better) on Saturday." He asked Broadus's recommendation for a new professor of Greek [for Richmond Female Institute]: "The board passed a resolution, informing Prof. Christian that 'his resignation would be acceptable to the board'. I suppose that gentle hint may suffice."
