Upon the resignation of N.M. Crawford, president of Mercer University, the board of trustees wanted to elect a new president as soon as possible. "The trustees would be glad, I have no doubt, to make the election very soon or at least this winter if the name of a suitable man were presented before them. Upon consultation with some friends of the university, I am induced to write to you to ascertain whether your name could be used before the board with any hope of your accepting the place." Gives details of life in Penfield, president's duties. Broadus did not apply for the position.
