ArchivalResource

Minutes 1956-1985.

The collection consists of minutes of the biennial (later triennial) annual synod meetings and the more frequent Church Council meetings. The Church Council files include correspondence related to the minutes. They are arranged chronologically. There is an index to the Church Council minutes from 1959-1977. The early minutes are rather sketchy and may not be complete. Later minutes are more detailed. Early minutes are in both Pidgin and English, although later minutes are often only in Pidgin, the official language used by the synod. There is one file of minutes of the Bishop's Council. Although the records do not indicate the exact makeup of this committee, those in attendance included bishops, district presidents, the church secretary, and an advisor from among the missionaries. The records were collected by either the directors of the Division for World Mission and Inter-Church Cooperation or the area secretaries responsible for work in Papua New Guinea.
