Association of ALC Personnel in Brazil 1921-1975; 1961-1974.

Box 1 contains a handbook for the association and minutes from both annual conferences and executive committee meetings. There are also files of reports to the annual conferences from officers, stations, committees, and institutions. Box 1 includes publications, reports, and subject files as well. Of note is correspondence related to an investigative trip made by E.H. Mueller more than three decades before the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELC) and The American Lutheran Church (TALC) began work in Brazil. The files also include publications of some of the German mission groups that preceded TALC Brazil work. Box 2 contains correspondence of the presidents and treasurers of the association. Presidents include Robert Maland (1961-1963), Robert Kasperson (1963-1964), Elden Landvik (1964-1967), John Aamot (1967, 1969-1971), Glen Hetland (1969), Otto Tollefson (1972-1974), and Peter Mathiasen (1974). Treasurers include Edward Olander (1964), Louis Becker (1964-1965), Edward Olander (1965-1966), Gaylord O. Grant (1969-1970), and Robert Maland (1971-1974). Correspondents from the Division of World Missions of TALC are Executive Directors Rolf A. Syrdal (1960-1963), Theodore P. Fricke (1963-1970), and Morris A. Sorenson, Jr. (1970-1981). There is also correspondence from Sorenson from his service as an assistant director from 1966-1970, and from Lester A. Dahlen (1971-1972) and John C. Westby (1972-1987), who served as secretaries for Latin America. Correspondence contains no information for 1968.

The American Lutheran Church (1961-1987) was formed by the merger of the American Lutheran Church (1930-1960), the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church.
