The writer asks, if Mr. Markham is aware that a school was named after him. He just moved to MT. Lebanon and found that his son's school is named after Mr. Markham. The president of the school board, was the one who decided on the name. Since he is a great admirer of Mr. Markham's works. He also askes for an autograph picture and a note to the students.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
