Lutheran Mission Madang, and Lutheran Mission New Guinea Financial Records 1930-1961.

The collection includes financial records for New Guinea mission work for the American Lutheran Church (ALC). After several files of general financial information on such things as cost studies and inventories, the rest of the records are divided into budgets, correspondence, and financial statements. Both the budgets and the financial statements are separated chronologically by mission name current at the time of the records, including New Guinea Section (1931-1944, but only 1931-1932 on the field), Lutheran Mission Madang (LMM, 1933-1942), and Lutheran Mission New Guinea (LMNG, 1945-1960). The earliest of the LMNG records indicate that immediately following World War II all monies had to be routed through an account in Brisbane, Australia. There are also separate files for Finschhafen, which related to the Lutheran World Federation as well as to the ALC. The correspondence files include account statements as well as correspondence. There are two separate series covering the same time period and correspondents. There may be some overlapping of these records, but it was not apparent whether the two series served different functions or were kept by two different offices. Main correspondents in both are Ann (also listed as Anne and Annie) Wenz, field treasurer; H.F. Schuh and George S. Schultz, directors of Stewardship and Finance of the Board of Foreign Missions (BFM), ; and Esther Barber, mission bookkeeper for the BFM. There are also two files of correspondence between Ann Wenz and Theodore Fricke, Executive Secretary of the Board of Foreign Missions.

The ALC met as a delegate body biennially in October, the time and place of which was determined by the president and Board of Trustees. All boards and standing committees sent their reports to the president at least sixty days before the convention, so that he could have them printed and sent to the delegates twenty days before the biennial meeting.
