Box 1 contains audits, budgets, and bound financial statements for the Andhra Lutheran Conference (originally called the India Conference) and the Katharine Lehmann Hospital, as well as a file on beneficiary work. J.H. Schneider, formerly secretary of the Board of Foreign Missions of the Joint Synod of Ohio (see JSO 9/1), directed the beneficiary work, which was a system for providing scholarship and tuition help to Indian students. Boxes 2-4 contain financial statements, along with related correspondence, for the Andhra Lutheran Conference, called India Conference until 1948, with the two names used interchangeably thereafter. In the early days of the South Andhra Lutheran Church (SALC, see TALC 14/8/2/2), the treasurer of the SALC was the same as the treasurer of the Andhra Lutheran Conference. The statements for these early years (1945-1959), therefore, frequently contain SALC financial records as well. From 1947-1960, many times there are two sets of accounting statements and balance sheets. The apparent reason for this is that the ALC's Department of Stewardship and Finance was responsible for the Board of Foreign Missions financial matters pertaining to the different mission fields, and as such maintained copies of relevant records. The treasurer of the Andhra Lutheran Conference, the Rev. Joel Mayer would send Dr. Theodore Fricke, Executive Secretary, Board of Foreign Missions, two copies of the "Trial Balance of the Andhra Lutheran Conference." One of these copies would be earmarked for Dr. George Schultz, director, Department of Stewardship and Finance. In turn, Dr. Schulz would send Rev. Mayer a copy of the monthly "India Mission Accounting" statements showing that various charges and payments had been made. Many times Dr. Schulz would also send Dr. Fricke a copy. Only records from Box 1 were microfilmed.
