Contains photographs of the following military units and organizations: Numerous throughout the world. General description of the collection: The Gordon R. Sullivan photograph collection includes numerous photographs taken during 35 years of active duty. However, 99% of the photographs are from the years in which he served as Chief of Staff of the Army. There are a few photos of Sullivan as a young 1st lieutenant armor officer and of his commands as a lieutenant colonel and colonel of armor units. Some photos of Sullivan as brigadier general, major general and lieutenant general, many of which are portrait photos with some of him pursuing his duty assignments are also found. The great bulk of the. Sullivan collection covers all of his activities as Chief of Staff of the Army. The range of subject matter during those four years covers his visits to U.S. troop activities throughout the world and his visits to numerous countries to their equivalent chiefs of staff. There are many formal banquets, receptions, promotion and retirement ceremonies along with many photos covering the AUSA (Association of the United States Army) conventions during his tenure as Chief of Staff and the Army-Navy football games during those years. This collection follows the General's activities almost day by day, hour by hour for four years. It is a huge visual documentation of what the Army Chief of Staff did during some of the most critical years of the Army's history.
