Records of the Michigan Department of Military Affairs Personnel Division, 1817-1946.

This record group consists of two sets of records of the Personnel Division of the Michigan Department of Military Affairs. The first set of records are records of Michigan military units (1920-1946). This series provides correspondence, reports, memoranda, and newspaper clippings detailing the activities of selected Michigan military units from World War I and II. Includes promotion and appointment lists; field inspection reports; along with regimental histories and insignias; secret Army war plans describing battle statistics as well as strategy maps of France, Holland, and Germany; and letters from federal government recognizing companies as official Michigan National Guard units. The second set of records are payrolls of troops during the Muskegon strike (1881). Mills workers in Muskegon County went on strike protesting long work hours with the Guard keeping the peace.
