Sarle papers, ca. 1920-1940.

Summary: Reports, publications, photographs, and maps documenting Sarle's involvement with mining and geology in Arizona. Searle used a panorama camera to document the areas he studied. The photographs are about 5" x 14", and are chiefly landscapes of mountain ranges. These include the Chiricahua, Dos Cabezas, Huachuca, Santa Rita, Santa Catalina, and Tucson Mountains. Also present are views of the San Pedro River near Fairbanks. Images of the Silver Hills Mines Company show miners and mining activity and images of Tucson show University of Arizona buildings, students, a wrestling match, the R.O.T.C. and campus views about 1920. There are maps of various mines including the San Juan group in the Tombstone Mining District, Dos Cabezas Mines, mine claims near Charleston, Helmet Peak Mines, the Silver Hill Mine, and the St. Louis mine near Greaterville. There are reports on various mines throughout Arizona including Olive Camp, the Old Hat Mining District, Silver Bell Mining district, Baboquivari Mining District, Oro Blanco Mining District, Dos Cabezas Mining District, and Rincon Mining District. Thereare also hand-drawn maps and blueprints for mines in the Tombstone, Dos Cabezas, and Aravaipa Mining Districts, and the Helmet Peak, Old Hat, Old Yuma, Silver Hill, and Copper Giant mines.

Biographical note: Geologist, mining engineer, and educator; Clifton Sarle was professor of geology at the University of Arizona from 1918 to 1924. He left to work privately as a mining engineer.
