The Richard H. McMaster papers, 1898-1956.

Contains the following types of materials: correspondence, memoirs, unit histories, clippings, diary / journal; ephemera. Contains information pertaining to the following war: Spanish-American War. Contains information pertaining to the following military unit: 6th Artillery Regiment. General description of the collection: Richard H. McMaster papers include his diary (April 30, 1899-May 19, 1901); his report of operations near Ilo Ilo (January 14-February 21, 1900) and newspaper clippings on his service with the 6th Artillery Regiment in the Philippines. Contains materials concerning the history and lineage of the 6th Artillery Regiment, primarily during the Spanish American War. Includes letters to Major McMaster, typescripts of his diaries from the Philippine Insurrection (1898) and on the Mexican Border (1916), and a scrapbook of departmental orders and other documents concerning the regiment (1898 to World War I). Also includes a letter from Captain Victor H. Bridgman recounting the service of Battery G, Bridgman's Bull Battery, in the Philippines (1898-1902) and a listing of the lineage of Battery G, 6th U.S. Artillery Regiment and Battery H, 5th U.S. Artillery Regiment (1861-1963). Some reference is made to McMaster's duty with the 7th Artillery Regiment at Fort Preble (1900-1901). A diary (March 5-November 19, 1916) and his personal correspondence (March 21-July 6, 1916) deal with his duty with the 4th Artillery in Mexico. A scrapbook containing departmental orders and other documents on the 6th Artillery Regiment is also found.
